Live Simply Award

The LiveSimply award is an opportunity for Catholic communities – parishes, schools, religious orders and chaplaincies – to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to

In Carleton House we have committed to working towards this award as a whole school.

What is the LiveSimply award?

The LiveSimply award is earned by communities and schools who can show how they have been living:

  • simply
  • in solidarity with people in poverty
  • sustainably with creation.

It helps our community to live, not just more simply, but also more fully.

What is Laudato Si?

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical (a letter) written by Pope Francis in June 2015 and addressed not only to all Catholics, but to everyone in the world. Laudato Si’ – On the Care of our Common Home, is a real challenge to us all.

Pope Francis teaches us that a right relationship with the Earth and the whole of creation is as much part of the Church’s moral teaching as a right relationship with God and our neighbour.

Laudato Si’ urges us to change our lifestyle, to treat nature with respect, to be deeply aware of the interconnectedness of all God’s creation and to live simply and without wastefulness.

Laudato Si – Mackenzie-Fort Smith

LiveSimply for schools guide

We are proud to follow the CAFOD LiveSimply for Schools guide, which helps us put our faith into action by living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with others. Using the practical steps in the guide, our pupils lead initiatives such as reducing waste, supporting those in need, and caring for creation through eco-friendly projects. This approach is now part of everyday life at our school, encouraging thoughtful choices and a strong sense of global responsibility.

Our School Actions

In Carleton House our actions towards our Live Simply Award include

  • a walk to school campaign, a litter pick, fair trade, support for the foodbank as well as many others.
  • Year 4 organised a copper collection across the school to support CAFOD World Food Day. Together they collected £31.72p
  • Nursery Prayer Garden
  • Supporting South Liverpool Foodbank

We warmly invite parents and families to support us on our LiveSimply journey—whether by joining in school initiatives, encouraging sustainable habits at home, or sharing ideas and resources. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community that makes a real difference for people and the planet.
